Perplexity says wrong things about my brand — how to fix it

What to do when Perplexity AI produces inaccurate information about your brand. How Perplexity's citation-based system works, where to fix sources, and why corrections can appear fastest here.

Perplexity works differently from ChatGPT and Gemini. It searches the live web for every query and cites specific sources. This is both the fastest path to corrections and the most transparent view of where inaccuracies come from.

Because Perplexity cites its sources, you can see exactly which page produced the incorrect claim. This makes it the most actionable AI model to correct.

Step 1: Find the inaccuracies and their sources

Ask Perplexity the same questions your customers would:

  • "[your brand] — what is it?"
  • "Compare [your brand] to [competitor]"
  • "Is [your brand] worth it?"
  • "Problems with [your brand]"

For each response, look at the numbered citations. Click each one. You now know exactly which page Perplexity used to make each claim.

Common citation sources

  • Your own website — if your website has outdated information, Perplexity will cite it
  • Competitor comparison pages — pages that compare you (often unfavourably) to a competitor
  • Third-party reviews — G2, Capterra, Reddit threads, blog posts
  • News articles — old press coverage with outdated information
  • Forums — Reddit, Quora, community discussions

Step 2: Fix the cited pages you control

Your website

This is immediate and the highest impact. If Perplexity is citing a page on your domain with incorrect information, fix that page. Perplexity will pick up the correction on its next search for a relevant query.

  • Update pricing pages
  • Correct product descriptions
  • Remove deprecated features from marketing pages
  • Ensure your homepage clearly states what you do

Third-party pages you can influence

  • G2 / Capterra / TrustRadius — update your company profile, respond to incorrect reviews
  • Crunchbase — correct your company description, funding, category
  • LinkedIn — keep company page description current

Pages you cannot control

For pages you cannot edit (competitor comparison posts, old news articles, forum discussions):

  • Publish better content that ranks for the same queries
  • Create a comprehensive FAQ on your website answering the questions Perplexity is searching for
  • Ensure your own content is more detailed and more current than the third-party page

Step 3: Submit feedback to Perplexity

Perplexity provides in-response feedback:

  • Click the flag or feedback icon on the response
  • Describe the specific inaccuracy
  • Point to the correct source

Perplexity's live-search model means corrections to web sources can propagate quickly. If the cited page is fixed, the next query that triggers a fresh search may already reflect the correction.

Step 4: Improve your citability

Perplexity cites pages it finds most relevant and authoritative. To become the preferred citation:

  • Publish comprehensive, factual content about your brand and category
  • Use clear headings and structure — Perplexity extracts from page sections
  • Answer the specific questions people ask about your brand or category
  • Include structured data — schema markup helps search engines (which Perplexity relies on) understand your content
  • Keep pages updated — Perplexity favours recent content

Step 5: Monitor citations over time

Perplexity's responses change with every web search. A correction that works today might be overridden tomorrow if a new page appears with incorrect information.

What to track

  • Which pages are being cited for queries about your brand
  • Whether your own pages are being cited (a good sign)
  • Whether competitor or third-party pages with incorrect information are being cited
  • Whether corrections persist across multiple queries and time

AIVIS tracks citations across models including Perplexity, recording which sources are cited for your brand queries and how responses change over time.

The speed advantage

Perplexity offers the fastest correction path of any major AI model because it searches live. The sequence:

  1. Identify the cited page with incorrect information
  2. Fix it (if it is yours) or publish better content that outranks it
  3. Perplexity's next search picks up the correction

This can happen within days — compared to weeks (Gemini) or months (ChatGPT).

Next steps

  1. Query Perplexity with the prompts from Step 1 and click every citation
  2. List every cited page that contains incorrect information about your brand
  3. Fix the pages you control immediately
  4. For pages you cannot control, create competing content on your own site
  5. Read the complete fix playbook for the full cross-model strategy
